Samuel Xavier-de-Souza

Associate Professor

Holds a Computer Engineer degree by Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte-UFRN, Brazil, 2000, and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering by Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium, 2007. Worked for IMEC as a Software/Hardware Engineer and for the Flemish Supercomputing Center as a High-Performance Computing Consultant. In 2009, joined the Department of Computer Engineering and Automation at UFRN where currently is an Associate Professor. He is a founder and current Director of the High-Performance Computing Center-NPAD at UFRN. In 2016, became a Royal Society-Newton Advanced Fellow for his research on Software Energy. Current interests include High-Performance and Energy-Efficient Computing and Communications and applications.

Luiz F. Q. Silveira

Associate Professor

Luiz F. Q. Silveira received his Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering from Universidade Federal da Paraíba (UFPB), Brazil, 2000, his Master Degree (2002) and Ph.D. (2006) in Electrical Engineering, from Universidade Federal de Campina Grande (UFCG), Brazil. Since 2010, he has been an Associate Professor at the Department of Computing Engineering and Automation of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), Brazil. In 2006 - 2010, he was also Professor in Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN). He has experience in the Electrical Engineering area, with emphasis in digital signal processing for telecommunication systems, acting mainly in the following subjects: information theoretic learning, channel coding, dynamic spectrum access, industrial wireless sensor networks, energy saving in data processing and telecommunication systems.

Kayo Gonçalves-e-Silva

Received the Computer Engineering degree and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, in 2010 and 2018, respectively. He joined the Digital Metropolis Institute at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, in 2014, where he currently holds the position of Adjunct Professor. His research interests include optimization, multicore architectures, parallelism and their applications.

Tiago Barros

Holds a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Campinas - Unicamp, Brazil (2018). His research interests are in digital signal processing, high-performance computing, computational geophysics, seismic inversion, numerical methods, and seismic data analysis.

Calebe Bianchini

Visiting Professor

Calebe P. Bianchini received the M.Sc. degree in computer science from UFSCar, Brazil, in 2002, and the Ph.D. degree in computer engineering from USP, Brazil, in 2009. He has been involved in a variety of projects in the last 18 years. Most of them are research and development projects in the HPC field, such as Intel Parallel Computing Center. He is currently involved in MackCloud Project, which is a Scientific Computer Center at the Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie. He is also an Associate Professor with the Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie leading small in-house projects in HPC and software engineering. His current research interests include HPC and cloud computing.

Kyriakos Georgiou

Visiting Researcher

Dr Kyriakos Georgiou is a Senior Research Associate at the Trustworthy Systems Lab of the University of Bristol, where he develops advanced energy estimation and optimization techniques for programs, including energy modelling, static analysis and profiling-based techniques. Kyriakos also works as a Research Engineer at AdaCore UK, developing tools and techniques that can provide software-assurance guarantees and security enhancements to critical systems. His research interests include compiler optimizations, static code analysis, energy consumption optimizations, software verification and security. Kyriakos Georgiou holds a PhD from the University of Bristol, an MSc in Internet Technologies with Security from the University of Bristol and a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Cyprus.

Ítalo Assis

Assistant professor at the Department of Engineering and Technology (DETEC) of the Federal Rural University of the Semi-Arid (UFERSA). He holds a PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering (PPGEE - UFRN). His main scientific publications are related to Parallel Computing, HPC, GPU, genetic algorithm, fuzzy logic, predictive control, and geophysical algorithms (3D seismic modeling, RTM, and FWI).

Tales V. R. O. Câmara received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering (2013), the M.S. degree in Mechatronics Engineering (2016), and the PhD degree in Computer Engineering (2020) from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte - UFRN, Brazil. His research interests include signal processing, communication systems, digital image processing, and neuroscience.

He works as professor at IFPB and he is currently a Ph.D. student in Computer Engineering at UFRN. His research interests include profiling tools and parallel performance analysis for code optimization in high-performance computing.

Demétrios A. M. Coutinho holds a bachelor's degree in Automation and Computer Engineering by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) (2011) and a master's degree in electrical engineering and computation in the area of Linear Programming and Parallel Computing by UFRN (2014). Since 2017, he is pursuing a PhD from UFRN in the field of energy-efficient parallel software for embedded devices. His research interests are High-Performance and Energy-Efficient Computing, parallel computing and their applications.
